• Directions to the farm are in the parent info packet on our website. It starts with Exit 239A off I 40. Look for American Flag Mylar balloons to mark the turn on Stateville Road and a balloon on the turn to Fuston Hollow. 10010 Statesville Road in your GPS will get you within 200 yards of the turn. 
• We must have medical/consent forms for the scouts on the camping trip.  Some of you turned them in at our first pack meeting, and some of you did not.  If you got an email from [email protected] on October 19, then we need your form.  If someone other than a parent is guardian for your son, then we must have a signed consent form authorizing that adult to leave camp with your son.
• We have two children with peanut allergies attending the campout. Their parents said that the boys are okay to be around nuts, but they cannot eat them.  We will have PB&Js on hand, and if any of your meals will contain nuts, please announce it at serving time.
• Do not forget to bring a reusable drinking cup for each person.  We won't provide drinking cups.
• We are all responsible for all of the children's safety.  Please take 17 minutes to refamiliarize yourself with Youth Protection Training and Two Deep Leadership.
• If possible, try to arrive at the farm by 9:15AM.  Parents may meet at WPC at 7:45AM departing at 8AM or at Three Forks Market (across from Dollar General on the way to the farm; Three Forks has great coffee and biscuits) at 8:45AM departing at 9AM.  Please organize among yourselves to decide who may lead the group.  Directions are in the Parent Information Packet.
• Parents may bring their phones, and I encourage cameras.  Children (cub scouts and sibling scouts) should leave all electronics at home.
• The weather is forecast to be sunny and mild.  We expect highs in the mid-60s and lows in the mid-40s.  At dinner time, the temp will fall to about 55*.  During the campfire it will be about 50*.  Temperatures will fall to 42-43* by the time you leave your tent on Sunday morning.  Please prepare for the cooler temps.
  • Pack layers that can be removed as temperatures rise and added back as they fall.  This is the time when all of that Under Armor can be useful.  Start with a tech tee (like the new Class B shirts).  Add a long sleeved shirt (wool is a gold standard, synthetic is good, cotton is acceptable for this type of activity).  Then add a vest, fleece, or sweater.  Top it off with a wind resistant shell or anorack.  As the kids warm up they can stuff the layers in their bag or put it in their tents.  Then as it cools, they can put them back on.  The boys will need pants for dinner and the campfire.  I think it will be too cold for shorts once the sun goes down.
  • The boys will work up a sweat during the day, and they should change into dry clothes before bedtime, if not before.  Dry socks, underwear, shirt, pants, etc.  Wet cotton will quickly sap heat from the boys.  Wool and synthetics fare better, but it is best to change in to dry clothes to stay warm.
  • Be sure that you have something beneath your sleeping bag at night.  The ground will drain heat from you.  An air mattress or cot are worth the investment.
  • If you are concerned about your sleeping bag's warmth, put a blanket over your child and you.  The blanket will enhance insulation, and by sharing it, you will lose less heat.
  • Stay hydrated during the day and eat snacks to fuel your inner furnace.  We will have water and lemonade available at all times including meals.  Since the humidity may be low, you may not notice your body dehydrating.  Every scout should have a water bottle as part of his six essentials.  You may want to have one yourself.
  • No one should be cold, scared, or sick.  Please see Hayes Bryant, Tim Sowell, Sarah Bryant, or your den leader if you need equipment, warm clothing, or something else.  We are happy to help you and your family make this a fun event.
